When we designed and programmed the website for Mark-It Express Logistics, a large, privately held drayage company with terminals in Chicago, Detroit, and Kansas City, the challenge was that everything true about Mark-It is also what every competitor claims. Fair rates, good drivers, someone who answers the phone. Shippers have read those words on a hundred carrier sites and discount them on sight. Mark-It’s real advantage is structural. They own the trucks, they employ the drivers, and the owner is still the person who started the company in 2009. But structure is invisible on a website unless you show it, and the people landing on the page usually have a container sitting at a ramp, not an afternoon to spend learning about a partner-first culture.
